SPEC operates an instrumented Learjet 25 aircraft for cloud physics research. Photographs of the SPEC Learjet and sensors are shown below.  A table to the right lists characteristics of the research instrumentation.  The Learjet has participated in several field projects (e.g., NASA TRMM, NASA EOS validation, NSF wave cloud studies, Alliance Icing Research Study in Ottawa, data collection at the SGP CART site for DOE and CSU CLEX) and it is a well-established research aircraft.

Data Acquisition Systems

One data acquisition system is built by Science Engineering Associates (SEA) and is based on a Pentium PC.  The CPI and the 2D-Stereo each have a dedicated data system that also ingests a serial data stream of computed parameters from the SEA data system, so that all data streams are synchronized in time.  There are three flat-panel displays on the aircraft, two are visible from the cabin and one is visible from the cockpit.
